BACKGROUND:
Bladder diaries support overactive bladder (OAB) assessment, but paper formats may be affected by incomplete entries and recall bias. A culturally and age-responsive mobile diary may facilitate symptom recording among older Filipino women.
OBJECTIVES:
To develop PeeNay, assess preliminary cross-language equivalence and internal consistency of the Tagalog Mobile Application Rating Scale (MARS-Tagalog), and do pilot evaluation of the participant-reported app quality and acceptability after 2 weeks of use.
MATERIALS AND METHODS:
This developmental study included preliminary MARS-Tagalog assessment among 30 bilingual respondents and a cross-sectional pilot evaluation among 71 Filipino women aged 50 years or older with OAB. Participants used PeeNay for 2 weeks and then completed the prespecified original MARS-Tagalog. Acceptable application quality was defined
RESULTS:
MARS-Tagalog cross-language correlations ranged from 0.80 to 0.90 and Cronbach’s alpha coefficients from 0.70 to 0.90. Participant-reported mean (standard deviation) scores were 4.09 (0.70) for Engagement, 4.24 (0.77) for Functionality, 4.13 (0.68) for Esthetics, and 4.27 (0.67) for Information; Overall App Quality was 4.18 (0.68; 95% confidence interval: 4.02–4.34). Age was inversely associated with all four domains. Acceptability responses were generally favorable.
CONCLUSION:
Selected older Filipino women with OAB reported favorable short-term perceptions of PeeNay. Findings represent participant perceptions, not trained-expert ratings or evidence of diary adherence, symptom improvement, or clinical effectiveness. MARS-Tagalog requires fuller psychometric validation.
