Developing a Holistic Midwifery Care-Based Educational Module to Improve Knowledge of Pregnancy Danger Signs
Aminah Maya, Jayasree S Kanathasan, Hafizah Che Hassan Background Complications can occur at any stage of pregnancy. Pregnant women's awareness of pregnancy danger signs is generally in the low to moderate category, and their knowledge and attitudes are still a concern in Indonesia. In its implementation, health education activities must be strengthened through the appropriate media. Content validity is important form of validity in the context of instrument development. There are several approaches to determining the validity of a research instrument, namely, the content validity coefficient Aiken's V, the content validity coefficient Lawshe's Content Validity Ratio (CVR), and the Content Validity Index (CVI). This study aimed to develop a printed educational module based on holistic midwifery care and validate the module using the content validity test method Aiken's V, CVR, and CVI. Methods This study used a methodological design and development research approach comprising two sequential phases: (1)development of a printed educational module based on holistic midwifery care and (2)content validation and preliminary user evaluation. The development phased focused on establishing the module’s content, structure, and educational presentation, whereas the validation phase assessed the relevance, clarity and representativeness of the module content through multidiciplinary expert assessment. Results The development phase resulted in a printed educational module on pregnancy danger signs, based on the principles of holistic midwifery care. The Aiken Index for all items in the module has high validity with a range of 0.923-1, CVR values range from 0.692-1 and CVI values of 0.86-0.93. More than half of the validators stated that all items contained in the module were essential. The I-CVI value obtained was 0.846-1, the Mean I-CVI value was 0.965, and the relevant proportion was 0.82-1. The respondents’ assessment of module quality was 89.7%. Conclusions This educational module on pregnancy danger signs, based on holistic midwifery care, is of high quality and is suitable for use by pregnant women.
