ABSTRACT

An intelligent horizontal single axis solar tracking system was designed and implemented, as documented in this paper. A hybrid control strategy was employed to perform solar tracking. In the open loop control, the position of the sun was calculated using solar position determination software. To improve the solar tracking accuracy, a correction mechanism was employed in the closed loop control using two LDRs (light dependent resistors) and a FLC (Fuzzy Logic Controller). Based on the measured data, 45.59% more energy was harvested from the single‐axis tracking system compared to an identical static solar panel. This represents a significant improvement for single axis solar tracking system.
