Design and analysis of metasurface based mm wave antenna array for 5 G application

M. Shobana

The research proposes a metasurface based 4 × 4 linear antenna array with an integrated corporate feeding which can be employed for mm wave 5G application. The metasurface unit cell is a periodic array of 8 × 8 orders. The proposed mm wave antenna is designed and simulated using High Frequency structure simulator (HFSS) and the prototype is realized using a dielectric substrate of Rogers 5880 with relative permittivity of 2.20.The overall size of the antenna array is 40 × 40 at an operating frequency of 24 GHz. The measured results show that metasurface based mm wave antenna offers −10 dB impedance bandwidth from (22.83–25.44) with bandwidth of 2.61 GHz and fractional bandwidth of 10.259%, peak gain 19.5 dB and measured efficiency of 85.2% within the 23–24 GHz frequency range. The radiation pattern has generated beams that are useful for 5 G applications.
