Dental Students’ Self-Reported Preparedness for Managing Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease and Kidney Transplants: Academic-Year Comparisons and Cluster-Based Educational Profiles
Berceste Polat Akmansoy, Mişel Orduluoğlu, Birsay Gümrü Tarçın Objective: The aim of this study was to compare self-reported preparedness for the dental management of patients with CKD and kidney transplant recipients among academic years and to identify distinct student profiles based on self-reported preparedness, self-rated confidence, and willingness to receive further education and to examine whether these profiles differed in their topic-specific training interests. Methods: This single-centre cross-sectional survey study was conducted between 1 and 5 June 2026, during the week following the end of the teaching period and before the commencement of final examinations, among third-, fourth-, and fifth-year undergraduate dental students at the Faculty of Dentistry, Marmara University, Istanbul, Türkiye. Results: In the final analysis, 83 third-year, 92 fourth-year, and 102 fifth-year students were included, corresponding to analyzable response rates of 70.9%, 73.0%, and 77.3%, respectively. In total, 277 students were included, yielding an overall analyzable response rate of 73.9%. Of the 277 participants included in the study, 180 (65.0%) were female and 97 (35.0%) were male. The mean age of the participants was 22.4 ± 1.3 years. Self-reported preparedness scores increased by academic year and third-year students scored lower than fourth- and fifth-year students (p
