Denmark: Political developments and data in 2025: Threats to the Kingdom of Denmark

Abstract

The US president’s desire to acquire Greenland created a major crisis at the beginning of the year, and it has been a recurrent theme during 2025. Both the Social Democrats and Liberals declined in electoral support at the municipal elections in the fall, but it harmed the Social Democrats to a larger extent than the Liberals, which increased their number of mayors. The Social Democrats lost, also, the mayor position of Copenhagen. Within parliament, 2025 was much more stable than the turmoil of the last years and election periods.
