This chapter discusses practical utility considerations in setting up and executing a nitrous oxide (N2O) monitoring project. It includes four case studies from four utilities, in Australia, New Zealand, Denmark, and the United Kingdom. These case studies do not necessarily conform to the new guidance provided within this Global Water Research Coalition Protocol – as such guidance has not been accessible to utilities and industry professionals. However, each case study shows real-world work by progressive utilities who have each taken meaningful steps to understand N2O emissions, prioritize their focus within resource and other constraints. These show a variety of approaches and considerations and authors hope they serve as inspiration as well as a source of lessons learned for others.
