Decentralized Destination Management for Sustainable Tourism with Women Empowerment and Social Inclusion
Vasiliki Basdekidou, Androniki KavouraBlockchain technology (BC) is a promising assistive tool that could revolutionize destination management and accessible tourism administration while fostering social inclusion. Although there have been conceptual discussions regarding opportunities, challenges, and functionalities of utilizing BC in accessible travel planning, inclusive ticketing systems, personalized services, and equitable resource allocation, there remains a significant need for a robust methodological cost-benefit optimization framework to assess the impact of BC adoption (BCA) in real-world tourism and hospitality (T&H) projects, particularly in social inclusion and administration strategies for equitable experiences. This paper presents a methodological foundation of such a framework, as a structured personalized systematic literature review to find, evaluate, and discuss BCA initiatives for women’s empowerment in smart tourism projects and determine the factors that influence the impact of the studies. The findings revealed that BCA in T&H can help in improving fidelity, transparency, and accountability in destination management; in advancing scalability, information sharing, sustainable knowledge, and security in accessible hospitality; and in enhancing anonymity, accessibility, and trust in social inclusion initiatives. The paper’s novelty lies in the introduction of a knowledge bibliographic data-mining sequence that decodes, using cost-benefit optimization, publication bias assessment, and text/content analysis classification, the impact of the studies in T&H in terms of key findings, variables, issues, opportunities, implications, and potentiality. T&H sustainability is propelled by BC-based technologies, innovation, and technical administration capabilities, and managers and practitioners will find valuable knowledge to reevaluate destination management issues, accessible hospitality challenges, and social inclusion functionalities and consider the potentiality to address them with BCA for equitable experience strategies.
