Data and Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education for Enhancing Health and Wellness

Serena Mani, Ganesh Mani, Vega Mani, Vanathi Gopalakrishnan

This chapter explores the role of data and artificial intelligence (AI) in advancing health and wellness, highlighting key studies and the impact of alternative data sources. Using the Makerere University AI Health Lab in Uganda, it highlights innovative approaches and expands AI-powered health modelling. Focused on the development of comprehensive female digital health twins and digital public infrastructure (DPI) to create a digital commons for mental well-being, it considers cross-country partnerships, shared technology, and information to address scalability barriers and propose solutions. We underscore the critical need for advanced educational training and professional development to align workforce skills with the rapid evolution of AI technologies and emphasise the pivotal role of academic institutions in utilising AI and data analytics to improve global health and wellness.
