Danicic’s philological views in the period prior to his arrival in Vienna

Aleksandar Milanovic

This paper analyses the content of Danicic’s lesser-known philological contributions published in 1844 and 1845, i.e. prior to his arrival in Vienna and his acquaintance with Vuk Karadzic. It is demonstrated that, even before coming to Vienna, Danicic had already developed into a young philologist, primarily under the direct influence of Ľudovít Stúr and Ján Kollár, as well as the scholarly literature he had read (P. J. Safárik, W. von Humboldt, V. Hanka, J. E. Purkyně, among others).
