Culture and Well-Being: Enhancing Student Well-Being in Inclusive School Settings

The objective of Global Goal 3 of the Sustainable Development Goals is to guarantee the provision of good health and promote overall well-being for individuals of all ages. This chapter explores integrating cultural perspectives in enhancing student well-being within inclusive school settings. Student well-being, encompassing physical, mental, emotional and social dimensions, is crucial for holistic development and academic success. The chapter delves into the relationship between culture and well-being, highlighting how cultural norms, values and practices shape students’ perceptions and experiences of well-being. It emphasises the importance of culturally responsive pedagogy and inclusive environments in promoting well-being in diverse classrooms. By understanding and embracing these cultural differences, educators can adopt strategies that enhance student well-being, fostering inclusive and supportive learning environments. Recommendations for educators, administrators and policymakers are provided to promote culturally responsive practices in inclusive schools, contributing to the overall well-being of students.
