Cultural adaptation of color connotations in interior design

Research subject: cultural adaptation of color connotations in interior design. The purpose of the work: development of a methodology for studying the color of interior design from the point of view of cultural connotations based on a cultural approach, with the further application of the methodology in practical research and the identification of determining factors, the proposal of strategies for cultural adaptation of color in interior design. Author studied the impact of interior decisions on cultural heritage perception and social interactions; mechanisms by which color schemes promote cultural communication and adaptation. The study focuses on a comparative analysis of cultural meanings of color. The use of color as a tool for expressing cultural code and promoting cultural diversity and communication through interior design is analyzed. An abbreviated example of design project analysis is given. The author's methodology for studying cultural connotations of color design of interiors, based on theories of functionalism, structuralism and symbolism, a three-layer cultural structure (Yang Minhua) of intercultural adaptation (Kim Yong Yun), is presented. Methods of cross-cultural, structural, formal, comparative-historical analysis, cross-cultural comparison, interviews with designers are used. Public interiors with a national style were analyzed. The novelty of the study lies in an integrated approach to analyzing cultural connotations of color in the interior, exploring the role of color as a tool for cross-cultural communication and adaptation. The author's methodology for researching design projects based on a cultural approach has been developed. Based on the methodology, more than 30 interiors were investigated. Modern theoretical works on interior design are analyzed. In contrast, this work summarizes conclusions about the determining factors of color in the interior and offers strategies for cultural adaptation. The flexible application of the symbolic meaning of color contributes to cultural exchange and integration, the preservation of cultural heritage. Factors determining the choice of color are : traditions, customs, festive events; religious beliefs; climate environment; socioeconomic differences; cultural heritage; artistic styles and traditional crafts; philosophical concepts. Strategies for adapting interior colors are proposed: respect for the subjectivity of cultures; participation in the development of projects of designers from different cultures; flexible renewal of the color scheme as a response to changes in society, transformation of social values in the context of globalization, taking into account the preservation of cultural memory.
