Critical Disability Studies in Education

Abstract

Critical Disability Studies in Education (CDSE) is a field whose time has come. Moving from foundational theorizing and activism in Critical Special Education, Sociology of Disability and Education, Disability Studies in Education, and Critical Disability Studies, CDSE engages critiques and insights from decolonial, queer/crip, feminist, and other critical, difference-affirming, and relational approaches. At its core, CDSE aims to (a) elevate Global South, decolonial, feminist, queer, and other critical scholarship; (b) dismantle ableism and theorize the question of the human; and (c) rethink pedagogy and practice anew through disability methodology. Implications for radical inclusive practice follow from this field-changing scholarship and activism in CDSE.
