Acute compartment syndrome is a condition in which there is increased pressure within a closed osteofascial compartment, resulting in impaired local circulation. Acute compartment syndrome is considered a surgical emergency. Without prompt treatment, acute compartment syndrome can lead to ischemia and eventually, necrosis.
