Conjunctival phimosis
Kshama Dwivedi, Santosh Suman, Vibha Singh, Divya Katiyar, Komal Priya, Devansh KansalA 55-year-old male presented with conjunctival membrane covering both corneas for 10 years, following acute conjunctivitis. Circumferential conjunctival overgrowth was observed bilaterally, greater in the left eye. The overlying conjunctiva was lustreless and nonretractable; probe testing confirmed the absence of corneal adhesion. Histopathology revealed fibrovascular stroma with chronic inflammatory infiltrates and elastosis—similar to pterygium—with no dysplasia. Surgical excision was performed with no recurrence at follow-up. We describe this as ‘Conjunctival Phimosis,’ a novel clinical entity, and discuss its differentiation from pterygium, pseudopterygium, pannus, and limbal stem cell deficiency.
