Composition of Purified CO 2 From Steel Mill Processes—A Classification and Analytical Comparison With Commercial CO 2

Purified CO 2 from steel mill processes is investigated and compared to five commercial CO 2 gases with different purities with focus on their trace components and especially for their suitability for catalytic processes. Using proton transfer reaction (PTR)–mass spectrometry (MS), the trace gas compositions of all CO 2 gases were revealed. This information is essential for the design of a large‐scale CCU plant in industries like steel and lime. We measured the five gas sources dry and humidified and detected with 201 trace components for the Carbon2Chem CO 2 and slightly more compounds compared to the commercial gases. For all CO 2 sources, hydrocarbons as well as oxygen‐containing compounds displayed the largest fractions. However, the results show the suitability of Carbon2Chem CO 2 for applications in catalytic downstream processes.
