Complication of Continuity Defect of Mandible: Myofacial Pain with Temporomandibular Joint Disorder Associated with Plate-only Reconstruction Mandible

A case of complicated plate-only reconstruction of the mandible is presented through this study. The stepwise management has been described in the following narrative.
Materials and Methods
An operated case of ameloblastoma presented to us with symptoms similar to temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD)/myofascial pain dysfunction syndrome (MPDS). The case was managed by various modalities, such as psychiatric consultations, pharmacological therapies, arthrocentesis, autologous blood injections at the joint site, and eventual surgical management. Surgical therapy involved the removal of the improperly adapted plate, proper seating of the proximal segment, and reconstruction with a new reconstruction plate.
Results
The patient became symptom-free following surgical therapy, along with an improvement in facial esthetics.
Conclusion
A plate-only reconstruction with symptoms pertaining to joint disorders and their management is quite less reported in the literature. Hence, the authors have decided to resolve such complications through management principles that are followed for TMD/MPDS.
