Comparison of the results of the Olympic Games, World and Russian Championships in athletics 2022–2025
Aleksandr SidorenkoThe purpose of the study was to evaluate the current competitiveness of track and field athletes of our country in the international arena during the period of suspension of domestic athletes from the system of international competitions by comparing the results of the Olympic Games, World Championships, and Russian Championships in the period 2022–2025. Research methods and organization. In the work, theoretical comparison and analysis of competition results were used, with the application of methods of mathematical statistics. Data sampling was carried out on the basis of official electronic protocols of World Athletics for the World Championships and Olympic Games in athletics 2011–2015 and 2022–2025, as well as protocols of the Russian Championships 2022–2025. Research results and conclusions. The results of the study showed an overall decrease in the potential capabilities of Russian track and field athletes in the fight for victory in individual events at the Olympic Games and World Championships by approximately 3.28 times, and in the fight for a prize place by 2.3 times compared to the period 2011–2013. At the same time, the coverage of events in which Russian athletes could participate in finals remained at the same level for men, while for women it decreased by approximately 1.44 times. Under the condition of their participation in the World Championships and Olympic Games in the period from 2022 to 2025, Russian track and field athletes, based on the level of their Russian Championship results, would have been able on average to win in 1.75 disciplines (3.65%), to win prize places in 5 cases (3.47%), and to participate in finals: men in 11.5 events (47.92%), women in 9 events (37.5%). The most successful athletics events in which representatives of our country currently have good prospects for victory and prize places in the world are race walking, high jump, and pole vault for women. Relative to the previous 10-year cycle, a decrease in the level of competitiveness of domestic women's athletics relative to men's is more noticeable.
