Comparison of Platforms and Languages for Performance and Power in Embedded Systems
Iván Embuena, Rafael Lajara, Juan J. Perez-Solano, Tomás Sogorb, David Calvo, Diego Real, Jose Pelegri-SebastiaA key part of electronic design is component selection. In the case of microcontrollers, testbenches are usually a good reference to summarize a key factor, such as performance or energy consumption. The problem is that these tests summarize a complex decision with a single metric; sometimes, it is not a matter of which one is better ranked in a single parameter, but which one is the most balanced for a particular application. In that context, we propose a multiparametric microcontroller comparison testbench which analyzes the performance and consumption with several representative applications, the three most used cores, and different languages. We propose a comparison methodology and show the results obtained from a list of selected platforms.
