Comparing single-point and multiple-point injection techniques for sacroiliac joint pain management

In order to find out how well one method of injecting a single point vs another method works in alleviating pain and keeping it at bay in instances of primary SI joint dysfunction.
Materials and Methods:
Sixty participants with main sacroiliac joint pain were randomly assigned to one of two treatment groups in this prospective randomized controlled trial. Under fluoroscopic monitoring, all injections were administered with a local anesthetic and a corticosteroid. Injection site pain was measured at baseline, 2 hours, 4 days, 6 weeks, and 3 months post-injection using a visual analog scale (VAS).
Results:
Both single-point and multiple-point injection techniques resulted in significant immediate post-procedural alleviation of pain matched to baseline ( p ≤ 0.001). No statistically significant changes in VAS scores were found across the groups at any follow-up interval: 2 weeks ( p = 0.692), 4 weeks ( p = 0.753), 6 weeks ( p = 0.783), or 3 months ( p = 0.820). Within-group analysis showed sustained improvement across all periods in both groups.
Conclusion:
Single-point SI joint injection is clinically equivalent to multiple-point techniques in achieving meaningful and sustained pain reduction in cases with primary SI joint pain. Due to its simplicity and less invasive procedure, the single-point approach may represent an effective first-line technique.
