Abstract

Background:

The present study aimed to evaluate and compare the effect of salpingectomy and salpingostomy on ovarian reserve through measuring serum levels of anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH).

Materials and Methods:

The current cross-sectional study was conducted on 64 patients with ectopic pregnancy (EP) and stable clinical conditions that required laparoscopic surgery. Serum levels of AMH were measured and compared in patients before and three months after laparoscopic surgery.

Results:

There was no significant relationship between AMH after surgery with maternal age, gestational age, number of pregnancies, and BHCG ( P value > 0.05). In addition, the mean of postoperative AMH level in the salpingostomy group was significantly higher than the salpingectomy group (3.27 ± 1.44 vs. 2.80 ± 1.47; P value < 0.05). There was no significant difference between the mean levels of AMH before and three months after surgery in both salpingectomy and salpingostomy groups ( P value > 0.05).

Conclusion:

Laparoscopic salpingostomy and salpingectomy did not change ovarian reserve assessed through measuring AMH levels in patients with EP.
