Comparative survival, biometric and nutritional components in triploid Crassostrea angulata adults transplanted to two aquaculture sites in Hainan Island, China

Survival rates at day 75 were higher in Sanya (93.9%) than in Wanning (86.9%), with possible predation identified as a key mortality factor. Sanya showed significant increases in biomass-related traits and stable protein and fat content, reflecting favorable environmental conditions. In contrast, oysters in Wanning exhibited increased protein and fluctuating fat content, with a significant increase in protein from day 15 to day 65 and fat accumulation that peaked at day 55 before declining, likely driven by environmental stressors. Concurrent environmental and food safety parameters were not measured in this study. Therefore, the observed differences should be interpreted as descriptive comparisons between the two sites and should not be construed as evidence of a direct causal relationship. However, the observed nutritional improvements suggest the potential to produce high-quality oysters through site selection. These findings highlight site-specific influences on oyster performance and emphasize the importance of tailored management strategies, such as predator mitigation and environmental monitoring, to optimize production and nutritional quality in aquaculture systems.
