Comparative Studies on Diagnosis of Musculoskeletal Disorders Using Imaging Techniques in Goats and Sheep
Kendesh, D. Dilipkumar, Manjunath PatilA clinical study was undertaken to compare and evaluate the diagnostic efficiency of radiography and C-arm in musculoskeletal disorders in goats and sheep. Ten cases of musculoskeletal disorders in goats and sheep were randomly divided into 2 groups. Each case was subjected to radiography (Gr I) and C-arm (Gr II) imaging techniques on the 0th day pre-operative, immediately post-operative and 30th day post-operative. Respiratory rate, heart rate and rectal temperature of animals remained within normal physiological limits during 0th day preoperative, immediately post-operative and 30th day post-operative. Significant (P<0.05) hypercalcemia, hyperphosphatemia and an increase in serum alkaline phosphatase levels were observed on the 30th post-operative day. The C-arm technique was superior in 17 instances (examination of clinical cases at a particular time) and the radiography technique in 3 instances. In conclusion, C-arm technique was superior to radiography in the diagnosis of musculoskeletal disorders in goats and sheep.
