Comparative Evaluation of Regenerative Potential of Platelet-rich Fibrin Used Alone and Platelet-rich Fibrin in Combination with Biograft-HT in the Treatment of IntraBony Defects: A Randomized Clinical Trial
Sana Khan, R. G. Shiva Manjunath, Shiva Shankar Gummaluri, Hirak Shubhra Bhattacharya, Ramanarayana BoyapatiBackground:
Treating intrabony defects (IBD) is always a difficult task for a periodontist. Incorporation of biomaterials such as bone grafts and platelet concentrates (like platelet rich fibrin [PRF]) helped in soft- and hard-tissue healing. Hence, the present study aimed to evaluate the PRF alone and Biograft-HT+ PRF in the treatment of human IBD’s.
Materials and Methods:
Present randomized clinical trial treated a total of 50 IBD’s in 32 patients. Gingival index (GI), Plaque index (PI), probing pocket depth (PPD), clinical attachment level (CAL), and bone fill and change in alveolar crest were measured at baseline, 6 months, and 1 year postsurgically. Paired and unpaired
Results:
There was a significant reduction in GI, PI, PPD; gain in CAL, improved bone fill and alveolar bone crest in both test and control groups when measured intragouply (
Conclusion:
Within limitations, both the treatment strategies have given better outcomes in treating IBD. Hence, the addition of biograft HT did not had additional benefits in betterment of IBD treatment.
