Abstract

Introduction:

Untreated cavities in children can lead to pulp involvement, necessitating pulpectomy. While hand files are time-consuming and risk errors, specialised Nickel-Titanium rotary files (like Kedo, Pro-AF-Baby and Prime Pedo) improve efficiency. Recent studies suggest these pediatric-specific systems reduce instrumentation time and post-operative pain while enhancing obturation quality.

Materials and Methods:

Seventy-five children from the age group of 3 to 8 years included in the study were randomly allotted to three groups. Group A: Kedo SG Bluefile, Group B: Pro-AF-Babyfiles and Group C: Prime Pedo files system. A stopwatch was used to record the instrumentation time. The root canal filling quality was evaluated as underfilled, optimally filled and overfilled. The data collected were entered into an MS Office Excel worksheet. Statistical analysis was done using ANOVA, post hoc Tukey’s and the Kruskal–Wallis test. P < 0.05 was considered statistically significant.

Results:

No significant difference was observed in instrumentation time and quality of obturation amongst the three groups ( P > 0.5). Mean instrumentation time for the Pro-AF-Baby rotary (4.01 min) system was less than that of the Kedo SG Blue (4.284 min) and the Prime Pedo rotary system (4.41 min). Pro-AF-Baby has the greatest number of optimally filled obturations than Prime Pedo and Kedo SG Blue; however, the difference was not statistically significant.( P = 0.971).

Conclusion:

Although the results were not statistically significant, the Pro-AF-Baby files showed better clinical performance, with less working time and higher obturation quality.
