This study explores community perceptions of Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Principles 3 and 4 in the context of social forestry certification in the Lassio Community Forest, Ogooué-Ivindo Province, Gabon. Using a mixed-methods approach, 64 households were surveyed to assess awareness of land tenure rights, Free, Prior, and Informed Consent, and workers’ rights knowledge. Data analysis revealed that gender, age, and ethnicity significantly shape community understanding. While general awareness exists, ongoing logging activities affect communuty profile dynamics and key rights knowledge gaps persist – particularly among women. The findings highlight the need for more inclusive, locally adapted FSC certification practices that reflect community priorities and support equitable participation.
