Communist atheism and Islamic religion factors the separation of Kosovo and Metohija from Serbia

The atheistic communists claimed that religion was the opium for the people. Firstly, they granted Kosovo and Metohija were granted autonomous status in 1946. In 1963, it was granted province status, which subsequently became autonomous. In 1974, Kosovo and Metohija formed their own institutions.
