Comment on ‘When Is CBCT Required? Insights From Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons on Radiographic Signs of Maxillary Sinus Involvement in Upper Third Molar Extractions’

Muhammed Said Aydın, Gokay Ozler

ABSTRACT

This Letter to the Editor comments on a study evaluating how oral and maxillofacial surgeons interpret panoramic radiographic signs and decide when to request cone beam computed tomography before maxillary third molar extraction. We emphasize that the study primarily measures referral behaviour rather than validated anatomical or surgical outcomes, highlight limitations related to panoramic radiography and absence of cone beam computed tomography confirmation and advocate for prospective outcome‐based studies guided by patient‐specific radiation protection principles.
