Comment on: How did social isolation change trauma patterns? Comparative analysis of isolation and normal periods

Fatih Alper Ayyıldız
Social isolation measures during the COVID-19 pandemic substantially affected trauma epidemiology. Türk et al. compared a full lockdown period with a corresponding non-isolation period while controlling for seasonal variation and demonstrated demographic and mechanistic shifts in trauma presentations. Trauma among young adults decreased, whereas the proportion of geriatric patients increased. Sharp and piercing object injuries and falls increased, while some outdoor activity-related injuries declined. These findings show that trauma burden did not disappear during lockdown but shifted toward older adults and home-related injuries, providing insights for emergency department preparedness, resource allocation, triage, and geriatric trauma management during future public health emergencies.
