Comment on ‘Ethnicity and the epidemiology of skin cancer incidence: a national retrospective population-based study in England, 2013–20’

Guofu Mao, Haizhen Lan

This correspondence comments on a recent national study of skin cancer incidence by ethnicity in England and argues that broad English ethnicity categories should not be directly used as proxies for native Asian populations. We highlight that melanoma subtype structure, nonmelanoma skin cancer patterns, healthcare context and diagnostic pathways differ across Asian settings, particularly in China, which limits direct extrapolation. This letter aims to encourage more context-specific interpretation of ethnicity-based epidemiological findings.
