Objectives
To evaluate and compare the effect of four different remineralizing agents on color matching and surface roughness of initial enamel caries.
Materials and Methods
Forty maxillary central incisors were allocated into four groups ( n = 10) according to the remineralizing agent used: Curodont Repair Fluoride Plus, 10% nano‐hydroxyapatite, 10% nano‐bioactive glass, and Fluor Protector S. Artificial caries lesions were induced by immersion in a demineralizing solution. Color was assessed using a spectrophotometer, and surface roughness was measured with a contact profilometer. Data were analyzed using one‐way ANOVA and Tukey's post hoc tests ( p < 0.05).
Results
Fluor Protector S exhibited the highest color change (ΔE₀₀), whereas Curodont Repair Fluoride Plus showed the lowest. Curodont Repair Fluoride Plus significantly reduced surface roughness compared with the other groups, while Fluor Protector S showed the highest roughness values.
Conclusions
The greatest color‐masking effect was observed with Curodont Repair Fluoride Plus and 10% nano‐bioactive glass. Nevertheless, none of the tested treatments was able to completely restore the original enamel color. Flour Protector S showed the least effect in restoring surface smoothening compared to other materials, while Curodont Repair Fluoride Plus showed the greatest effect in reducing surface roughness of initial enamel caries.
Clinical Significance
Curodont Repair Fluoride Plus may be recommended for the management of initial enamel caries due to its enhanced ability to promote favorable color integration and surface smoothening compared to other remineralizing agents, contributing to improved clinical outcomes.
