Collagenous fibroma: A rare neoplasm in the medial canthus of the orbit

A 54-year-old female presented with painless swelling of the left eye of 1 month duration. Clinical examination revealed a mass in the superomedial quadrant of the left orbit, which was confirmed by computed tomography of the orbit. Patient underwent excisional biopsy. Histopathologic examination revealed a well-circumscribed hypocellular lesion with proliferating bland stellate and spindled fibroblasts in collagenous and myxoid matrix. Immunohistochemistry was positive for vimentin and negative for S100 and SMA, thus confirming the diagnosis of collagenous fibroma of the orbit. Collagenous fibroma is a rare benign soft tissue neoplasm accounting for 0.1% of all benign bone tumors, with very few reported cases of orbital collagenous fibroma.
