Closing the Expertise Gap in TMD Care: A Global Education Model for Self‐Sufficient Care in Low‐ and Middle‐Income Countries

Yohana Fasel, Briana Burris

ABSTRACT

Temporomandibular joint disorders represent a spectrum of dysfunctions involving the temporomandibular joint, masticatory muscles, and adjacent structures. Despite the high burden of TMDs, significant inequities persist in access to TMD care across the treatment continuum. To sustainably close this expertise gap and build lasting local capacity for TMD care, we propose an education‐centered model that develops both clinical and technical expertise so that low‐ and middle‐income countries (LMICs) can ultimately sustain and advance TMD care on a long term basis.
