Abstract

Aim:

To evaluate and compare the clinical effectiveness of e- Pit and Fissure Sealants™ and Helioseal F Plus™ on permanent mandibular first molars in children aged 7–10 years.

Method:

200 children between 7-10 years of age with fully erupted mandibular first permanent molars were included for pit and fissure sealant placement. In one hundred children nano silver reinforced pit and fissure sealant was used (Group I) and in other one hundred children fluoride releasing pit and fissure sealant was used (Group II). The clinical evaluation of pit and fissure sealant was done using the modified USPHS criteria at 1-, 3- and 6-month follow up interval.

Results:

There was change in marginal integrity at 1- (p=0.415), 3- (p=0.374) and 6- (p=0.157) months follow up but the change was not statistically significant between nano silver reinforced pit and fissure sealant and fluoride releasing pit and fissure sealant. Statistically significant change in wear was seen at 1- (p=0.001*), 3- (p=0.022) and 6- (p= 0.037) months follow up between nano silver reinforced pit and fissure sealant and fluoride releasing pit and fissure sealant.

Conclusion:

Nano silver reinforced showed less retention and more wear as compared to the fluoride releasing pit and fissure sealant. Both the sealants provided similar caries prevention effects.
