Clearwater Drive: and other essays from the kitchen scholar

Abstract

This study employs Black feminist autoethnography (BFA) to examine knowledge hierarchies and the concept of organic intellectualism. This work repositions Black grandmothers as central figures in knowledge production by shifting the understanding of Black grandmotherhood from a traditionally narrow framework of wisdom to a broader, more authoritative realm of scholarship. Drawing on Ula Taylor’s concept of the “Street Stroller” and Paula Marshall’s “Kitchen Poet,” this article introduces the notion of the “Kitchen Scholar.” This work is part of a larger project.
