China’s Foreign Trade Policy
Manjiao Chi, Yu WangAbstract
The People’s Republic of China (PRC or China) has grown into a leading trading power in the world, especially in recent decades. China’s foreign trade policy is not static, but has undergone constant and sometimes fundamental changes to cater to the changing needs of the state. In general, China’s foreign trade policy forms a part of and reflects China’s economic policy. This chapter briefly introduces the changes in China’s foreign trade policy as well as their implications. It reviews the historical development of China’s policies from 1949 to the present. The chapter identifies key forces in trade law governance in China and, in so doing, highlights the features of China’s trade administrative state.
