Characteristic Peak Positions of AFm Phases in XRD

Tamino Hirsch, Yanliang Ji, Dietmar Stephan, Thomas Matschei

Abstract

The current publication compiles an up‐to‐date list of characteristic basal distances (d) for common AFm phases in different hydration states as observed by X‐ray diffraction. Values for endmember compositions are determined herein as well and compared to the literature. For the most dehydrated AFm compounds, the reported d‐spacings and occurring hydration states vary substantially more than for the higher hydration states, which might be connected to differences in the synthesis routes. The literature values for hemicarboaluminate, however, are very consistent for the characteristic basal distances but not at all for the assignment of the hydration states indicating errors in the determination of the water content in the literature.
