Changes of Organic Reserves in Bark During Regrowth after Cutting of Leucaena Leucocephala Plant

S. Suryanarayana, D. Mishra, R. Gupta
Changes in various organic reserves in bark of stubble during regrowth after cutting were investigated in Leucaena leucocephala. Carbohydrate contents (starch, non-reducing and reducing sugars) deceased up to 21 days after cutting and then gradually increased. Unlike carbohydrates, total soluble proteins continued to decrease even up to 42 days after cutting. Growth of shoots occurred from 14 days onwards, and it was more from the upper portion of stubble. Results have been discussed in relation to utilization and replenishment of various organic reserves after cutting.
