Challenges in structural design and execution: Stuttgart's new central station

Abstract

Stuttgart's main station is being completely revised and remodeled as part of the Stuttgart Ulm railway project. The old terminus station is being replaced by an underground through station. The chalice supports are a major design feature of the new platform hall. This article describes how they were designed.
