Cavernous Haemangioma of the Knee Joint Mimicking Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis

Chronic monoarthritis in children is not always caused by inflammatory arthritis. Normal inflammatory markers, absence of morning stiffness, presence of nocturnal pain, and poor response to treatment should prompt reconsideration of the diagnosis. Musculoskeletal ultrasonography may provide the first clue to an intra‐articular vascular lesion, while MRI accurately defines its extent. Early diagnosis and surgical treatment of a vascular lesion can prevent unnecessary immunosuppressive therapy and long‐term joint damage.
