While polymerase chain reaction-based (PCR) tests remain the standard for virus detection in laboratories, there is increasing interest in sensor-based testing methods to achieve faster results. This chapter underscores the importance of sensor technologies in speeding up the detection process and enhancing efficiency. It highlights key lessons from previous experience by analysing successful case studies in this field. Additionally, the future potential of sensor technologies in viral detection, offering insights into how these innovations may develop, are investigated.
