Calm’s Canvas: Changing Wellness Travel in India Supported by Artistic Technologies

Sarita Bhardwaj, Ajay Prakash Jaiswal

The developing linkages of wellness tourism, modern technology, and Indian creative traditions are investigated in this chapter. It shows that how modern gadgets are redefining these old practices like dance, ragas, and folk arts by usage of new technological means like virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and artificial intelligence (AI), thus creating more thrilling and customized therapy experiences in India. With wellness tourism growing across India, its cultural heritage offers explosive possibilities to combine the esthetics of the ancient world with contemporary technological advances. As much as immersive technologies have allowed guests to connect with art by creating a sense of being part of it beyond the wall, with VR experiences, leading to a more connected relationship with classical musical concerts, AI provides people with custom and individual range soundscapes based on their emotional and bodily state. Motion capture allows for even more dimensions and helps participants participate actively in therapeutic dancing lessons. Another aspect that is explored in this chapter is the use of these technologies by rural health retreats to come up with inclusive and financially sustainable models that facilitate local artists, in addition to maintaining the old knowledge system. It highlights the need to have cultural familiarity and connectivity to society in building moral and environmentally sustainable health initiatives. The chapter finally finds a moment when technology and art will work together to provide changing wellness vacations advancing mental health, spiritual growth, and cultural appreciation. It puts India at the highest in producing tech-integrated, heritage-based wellness travel.
