Calcifying odontogenic cyst with varying histomorphology -A report of 3 cases

Harpreet Kaur, Adesh Manchanda, Suchitra Gosavi

Since the day of initial description of calcifying odontogenic cyst (COC), it has remained a subject of considerable interest due to uncertainties surrounding its biological nature—whether it represents a true cyst, a neoplasm, or a cystic neoplasm—as well as its diverse histopathological presentations. Thus, different classifications have been proposed since the day of its inception to justify its biological nature and variable histopathological presentations. The aim of this article was to discuss series of cases of simple COC, COC associated with odontoma and Dentinogenic ghost cell odontogenic tumor (DGCT) which corresponds to Praetorius classification type 1, 2 and 3 respectively. Further, review of literature is also discussed regarding different nomenclature and classifications proposed.
