Bahaa Awwad, Bilal RimawiAbstract
This study addresses the issue of business sustainability in the digital age through a review of the literature of recent publications spanning 2024 and 2025, encompassing the challenges and opportunities that technological advancements pose in the framework of Society 5.0. The study emphasizes that digitalization is not an end in itself but rather an instrument to achieve comprehensive sustainability through a balanced adoption of technological innovation and social responsibility. It points out how a majority of businesses still treat sustainability as an afterthought, when the demands of the day call for embedding it at the core of operating and strategic models. The study also addresses the evolving nature of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), from marginal initiatives to core practices that have tangible environmental and social impacts. Furthermore, it discusses the transition from Industry 4.0 to Society 5.0, where efficiency is no longer the sole concern, but human empowerment, digital justice and equity have become the superordinate issues. The research shows that schools and universities are being called upon to revisit their purpose in order to produce leaders who can understand the complex interdependence of technology and society. The study concludes that business sustainability in the digital era requires adaptive, integrated approaches that prioritize human values, enhance stakeholder cooperation and reinterpret the concept of ‘progress’ in a way that works for both people and the planet.
