Business Ethics in Russia: Natasha’s Choice

Moshe Banai

The case describes an ethical dilemma of a young woman entrepreneur in Russia, immediately after communist Soviet Union turned to become capitalist Russia. Her choice is between deploying her illegal underground contacts to intimidate another woman employee who stole money from her to return that money, an action that is likely to yield positive results, or to try to find a legal and ethical solution that might not succeed. The case demonstrates a business environment that is very different from the American one, where legal actions might end in no results but might also cause damage to the ethical manager.
