Building Trade Institutions After the EU
Gregory Messenger, Ivan SmythAbstract
This chapter presents the reshaped landscape of trade powers in the United Kingdom (UK) following withdrawal from the European Union (EU), exploring the implications for the UK's trade policy and regulatory framework. It examines the repatriation of trade powers from the EU to the UK, including the establishment of new trade agreements, tariff schedules, and regulatory regimes. By examining the UK's trade powers in comparison to those of other countries and regions, it provides readers with insights into the diverse approaches and challenges in comparative trade regulation. Moreover, the chapter serves as a valuable case study for understanding the complexities of disentangling from regional trade arrangements and redefining trade policy priorities outside of large integrated markets.
