Bounty Channel System, Aotearoa/New Zealand: Study of the Sediment Waves (SW) Evolution from the Channel Initiation to Present Day, in the Lower Part of the Fan

MaierThis study focuses on the Bounty Channel System (BCS), a turbidite channel system flowing to the East of the Southern Island of Aotearoa/New Zealand. A 500 m stack of SW (wavelength: 1–3 km, height ~30 m) can be observed in the northern levee of the channel in the lower part of the fan.
A high resolution 2D multichannel seismic data and an extensively cored IODP well were the basis for a detailed geomorphological and lithological analysis of the BCS. This approach allowed to characterize the sediment waves and their lithological content and to discuss the processes that control the channel geomorphology. Our observations show that:
