Bleeding and Clotting Disorders and its Periodontal Considerations
Anand Suresh, Sanjeev Ravindran, M. P. Shyamala DeviAbstract
Periodontal disease management in patients with bleeding and clotting disorders presents significant clinical challenges due to the increased risk of bleeding and compromised healing. These patients require an individualised approach to periodontal care in order to ensure both effective treatment of periodontal conditions and alleviating bleeding complications. This review looks into the fundamental physiology of haemostasis and provides a basic overview on pathologies related to it and how best to manage oral health for these patients, combining current knowledge and best practices. The primary approach includes using less invasive treatments, careful planning before procedures and applying methods to control bleeding. Consultations with haematologists are crucial to create personalised treatment plans. By following these guidelines and working together with medical specialists, dental professionals can improve care and aid patients in maintaining better oral health despite their bleeding or clotting issues. Future research is needed to develop clear guidelines and new techniques to further enhance treatment for these patients.
