Biotype‐Specific Regulation of Wheat Mono‐ and Diterpenoid Defences by Diuraphis noxia
Hendrik W. Swiegers, Christine H. Foyer, Anna‐Maria BothaSummary Statement
While avirulent Russian wheat aphids trigger defensive mono‐ and diterpenoid production in resistant ( Dn7 ) wheat, these downstream terpenoids are suppressed by a virulent biotype despite inducing upstream jasmonic acid (JA) biosynthesis. Concurrently, DnDCXR is upregulated in the virulent aphid, which we propose acts as a metabolic effector that scavenges in planta JA to disarm host defences.
