Between spectral dispersion and gravitation: Strings 0.4 by Vladimir Korać

Tijana Ilišević

Vladimir Korać's composition Strings 0.4 (<i>Žice 0.4</i>) explores the spectral and multiphonic possibilities of the double bass through a systematic examination of the fundamental, overtone and inharmonic series, microtonal shifts, and bowing positions. Extended musical time and a reduced "harmonic" palette allow the transformation of the tones G, G#, and E, while multiphonics generate a complex acoustic polyphony. The result is a controlled, internally dynamic structure in which instrumental sound and timbre become the primary carriers of dramaturgy.
